Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 July 2026
SnapRescue was built privacy-first. Your memories are yours, and the app is designed so they stay on your computer.
- Your photos and videos are processed entirely on your own device. They are never uploaded to us or anyone else.
- SnapRescue works without an account. We don't ask you to sign in or create a profile.
- The only things that ever go online are an optional place-name lookup, a quick licence check when you unlock, and the email we send your licence key to after purchase.
- If you choose to leave your email for the iPhone waitlist or a deadline reminder, we store that address for that one purpose and nothing else.
- No ads, no trackers, no analytics in the app. This website uses Google Analytics to count visits, nothing more.
1. Who we are
SnapRescue ("we", "us") is an independent desktop application that restores dates, locations and captions to the Memories you officially export from Snapchat. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Snap Inc. You can reach us any time at support@snaprescue.app.
2. Your photos and videos never leave your device
This is the most important point, so we'll be plain about it: when you run an export, SnapRescue reads your Snapchat ZIP files, restores the metadata, and writes the finished files into a folder you choose, all locally on your computer. Your media is never transmitted to our servers, never stored by us, and never seen by us. There is no cloud processing.
3. What does go online (and why)
SnapRescue is local-first, but a few features need the internet. Here is the complete list:
| Feature | What is sent | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Place names (optional) | Only the GPS coordinates of a memory, to turn them into a readable place like "Byron Bay". No photo, no account, no name attached. | OpenStreetMap's free geocoding service. Off by default; only used if you turn on "Add place names". |
| Unlocking the full version | Your licence key, to confirm it's valid. | Our licence server. No photos are involved. |
| Buying a licence | Your email and payment details, entered on Stripe's secure checkout page. | Stripe (our payment processor) and our licence server, which records that a key was issued and emails it to you. |
| Waitlist & reminder forms (optional) | The email address you type in, plus which list you joined (iPhone waitlist or deadline reminder). | Our licence server. Only sent if you submit one of the forms on this site. |
4. Payment and your email
Purchases are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details. When you buy, we receive your email address and a payment confirmation so we can generate your licence key and email it to you. We keep a minimal record of issued keys (the key, the associated email, and purchase/refund status) so we can support you, honour the 3-device limit, and process refunds. We do not sell, rent, or share this information, and we don't use your email for marketing.
5. Emails you give us on this website
Two forms on this site let you leave an email address, and both are optional:
- Deadline reminder: we store your address so we can send you one reminder email before Snapchat's September 1, 2026 deadline.
- iPhone waitlist: we store your address so we can tell you once when the iPhone version launches, along with an early-supporter discount code.
That's the entire use. Your address is stored on our own licence server, is never added to a newsletter, never shared or sold, and never used for any other marketing. Once the email you signed up for has been sent, we delete the list it came from. You can also ask to be removed at any time by emailing support@snaprescue.app.
6. The licence key check
When you activate or use the full version, the app makes a small request to our licence server to confirm your key is valid and active. This request contains your licence key only. It does not contain, and our server never receives, any of your photos, videos, or the contents of your export.
7. No tracking or ads in the app; basic analytics on this site
The SnapRescue app contains no advertising, no third-party trackers, and no usage analytics. This website uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages help them; it doesn't tell us who you are, and we don't run advertising trackers or build a profile of you. If you block analytics in your browser, the site works exactly the same.
8. Data we keep, and for how long
- On your computer: the app stores your licence key and a small local counter for the free tier, in your user config folder. You can remove these at any time by uninstalling.
- On our server: the issued-licence record described in section 4. We retain it for as long as the licence is valid so we can support and verify it. You can ask us to delete your record (see section 10); note this also deactivates the key.
- Waitlist and reminder emails: kept only until the one email you signed up for has been sent, then the list is deleted. Removed sooner at any time if you ask.
- Payment records: held by Stripe under their own retention and legal obligations.
9. Children
SnapRescue is a tool for people retrieving their own exported data and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you (in practice, your email, your licence record, and any waitlist or reminder entry), ask us to correct or delete it, or ask us to stop contacting you. Email support@snaprescue.app and we'll action it. Because your photos never reach us, there is nothing on our side to request regarding your media, it's only ever on your device.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change how SnapRescue handles data, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
12. Contact
Questions about privacy, your data, or anything else? Email support@snaprescue.app and a real person will reply, usually the same day.
SnapRescue is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Snap Inc. "Snapchat" is a trademark of Snap Inc. SnapRescue only processes data you have officially exported from your own account, entirely on your own device.
